St.
Petersburg International Model United Nations is one the oldest school-level
MUN conferences in Russia. Since 1997, the conferences have been organized by
Saint Petersburg Gymnasium N°157 ( http://www.gym157.spb.ru/ ). Our Gymnasium
was founded by Princess of Oldenburg in 1868 and is located in a historic
building in a picturesque center of the city.
For three
decades SPIMUN has been inviting high school students to discuss actual and
important issues concerning economic, social, environmental and cultural
spheres.
The young
delegates, in seeking solutions to these problems, can learn to defend their position
in a constructive way and at the same time to cooperate and reach compromise.
Model UN is a project that develops leadership and teamwork skills.
In the
process of preparation for the annual conferences, students learn about the
history, structure, main activities of the UN. They study the basics of
parliamentary procedure and learn how to debate.
The
official language of SPIMUN is English, and international conferences provide
good practice for those who are studying the language at an advanced level.
The
Organizing Committee of SPIMUN consists of teachers, graduates, and active
students of Gymnasium N°157.
